FBI-DOJ Personnel Withholding Explosive Information On Terrorist Attacks That Subsequently Occurred

While White House politicians were directing CIA personnel to engage in brutal torture activities seeking to obtain information on planned terrorist attacks, high FBI-DOJ personnel were withholding information on planned terrorist attacks obtained from inside a main al Qaeda cell. That information came directly from the mastermind behind the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and the mastermind behind the planned simultaneously bombings of 11 U.S. airliners department Far East locations. A more high-level al Qaeda source would be difficult to find.

One Leg of a Multi-Legged National Scandal

Prior to the downing of TWA Flight 800, prior to the bombings of two U.S. Embassies in Africa, and prior to the hijacking of four airliners on September 11, 2001, local FBI agents received periodic information from a mole operating in the al Qaeda cell headed by Ramzi Yousef. Yousef was the mastermind behind the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and the mastermind behind the intended simultaneous bombing of 11 U.S. airliners departing Far East locations. No other al Qaeda source could be more valuable than him, and here he was unknowingly providing explosive information on planned terrorist attacks that would kill nearly 4,000 people. he was probably the most important source of information in the entire al Qaeda group.

The Mole Inside the Al Qaeda Cell

The "mole" was a former Mafia soldier from the New York City area who was in a New York City prison facility with Yousef, and occupying a cell between Yousef and another al Qaeda operative. Scarpa started to infiltrate the al Qaeda cell by passing notes between Yousef's prison cell and the other one occupied by another al Qaeda operative on the other side. Scarpa convinced Yousef that his Mafia group in New York City also wanted to harm the United States.

Scarpa, working secretly with local FBI agents, set up a fictitious Mafia company in New York City through which Yousef make local phone calls that were patched through to al Qaeda members in the New York City area, in Texas, and in the Middle East. That bogus Mafia company was set staffed by  FBI agents acting as Mafia figures. The confidential information about the planned terrorist attacks stated to Scarpa by Yousef was periodically passed on to local FBI agents. That information included:

• The planned downing of a U.S. airliner departing a New York City airport, which eventually did occur with the downing on July 17, 1996, of TWA Flight 800, killing over 200 people.
   
• The 1998 bombings of two US Embassies in Africa, which eventually did occur in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on August 7, 1998. These terrorist attacks killed nearly 300 people and injured over 10,000.
   
• The hijackings of U.S. airliners, which did occur on September 11, 2001, killing nearly 3,000 people.
